Land Adjacent to Hinksford Substation
At Balance Power, we care about delivering projects that will help the transition to net zero by 2050. We are immensely proud of our experience in providing communities with a carbon free future. Land at Hinksford Lane, an 8.5acre site in South Staffordshire has been identified by Balance Power as an ideal location to deliver this project given the proximity to Hinksford Substation and the extant gas peaking scheme, pronouncing the overall industrialised nature of the site. We are proposing to develop a new battery storage facility, along with a landscaping scheme, suitable access and drainage.
What are we proposing at Hinksford?

The site, when completed, will feed stored electricity into the local distribution network at peak and other determined times.
The Land at Hinksford Lane is bounded by woodlands on one side which will reduce visibility from the large settlement of Wall Heath for these residents. South Staffordshire District Council has approved a number of energy facilities in the surrounding area, therefore there is planning precedent for sites of this nature.
Battery storage sites are becoming increasingly important in the fight against climate change, but also to deliver better energy security and contribute towards keeping domestic energy bills down. By delivering this storage facility in Hinksford, we are helping South Staffordshire District Council meet its own renewable energy targets and this supports many policies as set out in the Council’s Climate Change Strategy and in the Council’s Local Plan
Including:
-
Policy EQ6: Renewable Energy Provision should be made for renewable energy generation within South Staffordshire to maximise environmental and economic benefits whilst minimising any adverse local impacts. South Staffordshire should strive to meet a minimum of 9.6% of its energy demand through renewable energy sources by 2020 through a variety of technologies.
Raising awareness:
-
We will encourage energy reduction, clean energy and energy efficiency and promote its benefits to our community and businesses.
Our strategic planning responsibilities:
-
Encouraging renewable sources of energy supply;
-
Use of planning mechanisms and obligations to contribute to climate actions where appropriate;
-
As part of the development of the new Local Plan, we will take account of actions to mitigate climate change.
